Burkini Swimsuits — Browse the Collection

What Buyers Actually Need From a Burkini Manufacturer

Burkini swimwear has grown a long way since 2010, and the buyers asking for an Islamic swimwear manufacturer have diversified with it. A swimwear brand launching an Islamic line in the UK writes a completely different brief from a poolwear resort supplier in Malaysia, or a children’s swimwear label in the Gulf. What sits at the bottom of all three briefs is the same: real coverage, fabric that stretches and moves in water, dries fast, and still holds its shape after a season.

Spec a burkini swimsuit like performance sportswear, not like modest clothing. The fabric has to stretch in four directions, resist chlorine, dry within an hour of leaving the water, and hold UPF 50+ when saturated — the point at which most polyester fabrics stop protecting. Get that last one wrong and you are not looking at a quality complaint. In most Western jurisdictions you are looking at a health and safety failure, and the market is regulated accordingly.

Six style families come out of our Suzhou production facility, all of them in nylon/spandex or premium polyester/spandex blends rated UPF 50+ wet and dry. Run it as OEM from your tech pack, ODM on our base patterns, or private label straight from stock. MOQ is 50 pieces per style and colour combination.

Burkini Styles We Manufacture

Three-Piece Classic Burkini

The most widely sold configuration: a long-sleeve swim top with UPF hood, full-length swim leggings, and a mid-length swim tunic or skirt layer. The three-piece construction lets the wearer adjust coverage and styling, and the tunic layer adds an extra modesty panel over the leggings without restricting movement in water.

Construction: flatlock seams throughout for comfort against skin. Hood is cut as part of the top or as a separate attached piece. Tunic hem sits 4–8 inches below the hip. Optional thumb-loop at the cuff to keep sleeves in place while swimming.

Typical fabric: 80% nylon / 20% spandex or 82% polyester / 18% spandex, 200–230 g/m².

Best for: UK, EU, Australian and Malaysian markets. Highest volume style globally.

Two-Piece Sporty Burkini

A long-sleeve rash guard top paired with swim leggings — no outer tunic layer. This construction is preferred by active swimmers, competitive water sport participants and buyers targeting gym and aquatics club markets. Streamlined silhouette reduces drag in the water and is easier to move in for open-water swimming and water sports.

Construction: compression or relaxed fit available. Back panel often in a lighter knit mesh for ventilation without compromising coverage. Flatlock seams. Front zip from collar to mid-chest is optional on the rash guard for ease of dressing.

Typical fabric: 80% nylon / 20% spandex, 180–210 g/m². Chlorine-resistant blend available for chlorinated pool use.

Best for: sports and fitness brands, aquatics clubs, competitive swimming market.

Cape-Style Burkini

A long-sleeve one-piece with an attached cape or drape layer from the shoulder or neckline. The cape adds an extra layer of coverage over the torso and upper body without the construction complexity of a separate tunic piece. Popular in Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets, and in resort and beach photography — the cape creates movement and silhouette in images.

Construction: one-piece body with attached cape. Cape cut on bias or straight depending on desired drape. Full back zip entry or overhead entry options. Hood attached or separate.

Typical fabric: 80% nylon / 20% spandex, 200–220 g/m². Cape often in a lighter chiffon or sheer knit for visual contrast.

Best for: Southeast Asian and Gulf markets, resort brands, social media-driven collections.

Kids Burkini

Sized from 2 to 16 years. The construction is simpler than adult styles — typically a two-piece top and legging combination without the outer tunic layer, since movement range in children's swimwear is more critical than layering. All fabrics meet children's safety standards (REACH, Oeko-Tex Standard 100) without exceptions.

Construction: no small parts — hood is integrated into the top, no separate attachments. Elasticated waistband on leggings, non-metal hardware only. Flatlock seams reduce rubbing on delicate skin. Printed rather than embroidered decoration to avoid texture against skin.

Typical fabric: 80% nylon / 20% spandex or 80% polyester / 20% spandex, 190–210 g/m². Colours tested for wash and sweat fastness to children's textile standard.

Best for: children's brands, family swimwear lines, UK and EU markets (strict children's product safety).

Full-Zip Front-Opening Burkini

A zip from collar to hem on the outer layer makes dressing and undressing far easier — particularly useful for post-pool changing rooms and for customers with mobility considerations. The full-zip style is growing in the medical and disability-adaptive swimwear market alongside standard modest swimwear.

Construction: YKK water-resistant zip runs full length of outer tunic or one-piece. Zip guard behind the zip protects skin. Inner body is separate from the outer zip piece so it stays in place when the outer layer is unzipped. All metal components are corrosion-resistant (304 stainless or plastic).

Typical fabric: 80% nylon / 20% spandex, 200–230 g/m².

Best for: UK, European and Australian markets. Adaptive and inclusive swimwear buyers.

Printed & Tropical Pattern Burkini

A fashion-forward take on the classic three-piece or two-piece: floral, tropical, geometric or digital-print fabric replacing the solid-colour base. Print is applied at fabric stage (sublimation or reactive print) before cutting, so there is no registration issue at seam lines. The strongest-selling option for spring/summer collections and social-media-driven modest fashion brands.

Construction: same as three-piece or two-piece base style. Print placement must be specified on a tech pack — seam placement affects where patterns match or break. We offer a print review before cutting to catch obvious misplacements.

Typical fabric: sublimation-print polyester/spandex, 82/18 ratio, 200–220 g/m². Reactive print available on natural-blend fabrics at higher MOQ.

Best for: fashion-oriented modest swimwear brands, Ramadan and summer collections, Instagram and TikTok-driven audiences.

Fabric Guide — Choosing the Right Swim Fabric

Swim knit and woven modest cloth do not behave the same way, and the difference is not academic — it is where sourcing goes wrong. These are the fabrics we run regularly. One thing you will not find in the list: standard polyester jersey. It takes on water, drops its shape, and offers no real UV protection once wet.

Fabric Composition UPF (dry/wet) Chlorine resistance Best for
Nylon / Spandex 80/2080% nylon, 20% elastane50+ / 50+GoodAll-purpose burkini, premium tier
Polyester / Spandex 82/1882% polyester, 18% elastane50+ / 50+ModeratePrint burkini, entry-mid tier
Chlorine-Resist Polyester 100%100% Endurance+ polyester50+ / 50+Excellent (200h pool test)Heavy-use pool and club swimwear
Recycled Nylon / Spandex78% recycled nylon (Econyl), 22% spandex50+ / 50+GoodSustainability-positioned brands (GRS cert)
UPF Chiffon Overlay100% polyester microfibre50+ / 40+Not suitable for poolCape layer and outer drape only

The wet UPF issue: standard polyester fabrics often have UPF 50+ when dry but drop to UPF 15–25 when wet and stretched — which is exactly how swimwear is worn. All fabrics we specify for burkini production are tested wet and stretched, not just dry. We can supply the test report with your order.

Chlorine degradation: nylon/spandex blends degrade in chlorinated pools over approximately 200 hours of exposure. For brands targeting regular pool swimmers or club and leisure centre markets, we recommend the Endurance+ polyester or a chlorine-resistant treated nylon. This doubles the garment's useful life in pool conditions and reduces returns.

Coverage, Opacity and UPF — What to Specify Before You Order

Three specifications separate a burkini swimsuit that reorders from one that comes back, and they account for most of the gap between a $15 garment and a $30 one. None of the three shows up in a product photograph. All three are settled at sampling — the only point where changing them is still cheap.

1 — Coverage and opacity. This is the spec your customer judges you on first, and it is a build decision rather than a fabric order. Four things have to line up: the opacity of that exact colour, the cut at neck, wrist and ankle, whether the cloth clings or floats, and whether the hood holds position. A pale colourway in a light knit will cling and read through at the bust and thigh no matter how long the sleeves are. On your spec sheet: pair pale colours with a matched opaque lining in the tunic body and pants front, and set the weight floor at 190 g/m².

2 — UPF. If you advertise sun protection, this is the number you are answerable for. Protection comes from fabric density, colour depth, stretch state and UV-blocking finish — not from the fibre name alone — and a knit rated UPF 50+ flat can drop measurably once stretched over a body, which is how it is worn. Darker, denser knits protect best; a stretched pale knit protects least. Write “UPF 50+ tested wet and stretched, AATCC 183 or AS/NZS 4399” onto the tech pack, and require the test report in the same shipment as the goods.

3 — Chlorine and salt resistance. This is the spec that decides whether you get a second order. Chlorine goes for the elastane and leaves the base fibre untouched, so the suit bags at the knee long before it fades — it still looks new while it gives up. For a customer in the pool weekly, standard spandex is done inside a season; PBT and chlorine-resistant elastane hold their shape across hundreds of pool hours. One line on the spec sheet, and it is the highest-value change you can make.

What You Can Customise on a Swimsuit Range

Colour Solid dye to Pantone reference, or sublimation print from your artwork file. Solid colours require a lab dip — 5–7 days. Dark navy and black match fastest; pastels and bright corals need extra matching rounds.
Print & Pattern Sublimation printing onto polyester/spandex fabric. Full all-over print or engineered placement print. Send us your artwork in 150 dpi or higher at final fabric width. We produce a strike-off for approval before bulk printing.
Hood Style Integrated hood (fastest, no assembly), attached separate hood, or removable snap-on hood. Neckline options: crew, mock-neck, or banded collar. Hood depth and face opening specified to your brief.
Sleeve Length & Cuff Full length (wrist) as standard. 3/4 length available for junior and kids sizes. Cuff options: plain hemmed, thumb-loop (keeps sleeves in place in water), or fold-back cuff.
Tunic Length Standard mid-hip (4–6 inches below hip). Knee-length tunic for maximum coverage. Asymmetric hem for fashion styles. Ruched or shirred hem detail available on fashion tiers.
Hardware All metal components are 304 stainless steel or corrosion-resistant nylon. YKK water-resistant zip option. Drawcord in waistband for adjustable fit. No exposed metal where saltwater corrosion is a concern.
Size Range Standard: XS–3XL (children: 2Y–16Y). Extended to 5XL on request with adjusted pattern grading. We grade to your own size curve or use our standard ISO grading if you prefer.
Branding Woven neck label, silicone heat-transfer logo, woven badge or rubber patch. Care and composition label to your country's legal requirement. Hangtag, zip puller, polybag and retail box available as a complete pack.

How a Swimsuit Order Runs, Step by Step

Enquiry Send your specification: style, colour or print artwork, size range, quantity, target retail price, and delivery deadline. We reply with fabric options, indicative FOB price, and sample timeline — usually within one business day.
Sample We cut a pre-production sample in your colour or print. You receive photos and measurements first; physical sample ships by courier 7–10 days from specification confirmation. Sample cost is credited against the first bulk order.
Sample Approval Check fit, construction, colour and print placement. We support one free revision round. Once you approve, we lock the specification and the sample remains in archive for any future reorder reference.
Bulk Production 20–35 days from approval. We send in-process photos at fabric cutting, sewing and QC stages. Final QC report issued before shipping with measurement and visual pass/fail results, inspected to AQL 2.5. SGS, Bureau Veritas and Intertek have all inspected on our floor, and third-party inspection can be scheduled into the production calendar if your market or your buyer requires it.
Quality Check Every unit inspected for seam integrity, colour consistency, print placement accuracy and measurement tolerance. UPF fabric is batch-tested. Swim hardware (zips, snap buttons) tested for corrosion resistance.
Shipment FOB Shanghai or Ningbo as standard. DDP door-to-door available: we manage freight booking, customs clearance and import duty payment. You receive one invoice — no surprises at customs.

Why Source Burkinis From ModestRise

Performance Fabric Experience We produce both modest clothing and performance swimwear from the same facility. Our pattern makers understand how stretch fabric behaves differently from woven fabric — which affects seam allowances, grading, and the way the garment fits on the body in water versus on a hanger.
Compliance Documentation We supply UPF test reports, OEKO-TEX fabric certificates, REACH compliance declarations and country-of-origin documents as standard. For UK buyers we support the GPSR product safety documentation requirement that has been in force since December 2024.
Low MOQ, Real Minimums 50 pieces per style and colour is the real minimum — not a figure that quietly becomes 200 once you start the sample conversation. We work with small brands launching their first modest swimwear line as well as with established retailers running seasonal restocks.
Print-to-Order Capability Sublimation printing in-house on polyester/spandex fabric from your artwork. No minimum print yardage — we print per-order, not per-roll. This means you can offer multiple colourways or prints at MOQ 50 sets each without committing to a full print run.
Seasonal Scheduling The burkini market has two demand spikes — Ramadan/Eid (March–April) and summer (May–July for the Northern Hemisphere). We plan capacity around these windows. Book production 8–10 weeks before your ship date for Ramadan collection and 10–12 weeks for peak summer.
Archived Specification Files Every approved sample is archived with the exact fabric batch reference, colour spec, measurements and trim details. Your reorder runs against a physical reference — not a description — so colour and sizing match batch to batch.

What Decides a Burkini Return — and How to Specify Against It

Returns on burkini swimsuits come down to four things, and workmanship is not one of them: going see-through when wet, elastane that will not spring back, seams and zips that fail in chlorine, and shade that does not match across a set. All four are settled before a single garment is cut, which is why the spec stage is where you have the most control — and the cheapest place to fix anything.

Opacity when wet. This one ends product listings, and it is almost never the fabric’s fault — it is the size of the panel. A knit that passes as a hand swatch can still read through across a full tunic, because light behaves differently over that much cloth and stretch thins it where it crosses the body. Write the check into your purchase order: assembled garment, wet, daylight, black reference, before the balance of the cloth is cut.

Elastane recovery. A mill substitution is all it takes, and you will not see the fault until a customer has worn the garment a dozen times. Add a line to the purchase order: 85% minimum recovery after five stretch cycles, tested on a cut sample from every bulk lot. That one line is what stops a substitution reaching you as a container of swimsuits that sag at the knee.

Seam and zip integrity in chlorine. Hardware is what fails first on a swimsuit; a standard zip corrodes out long before the fabric wears through. Running a zip-front or zip-side style? Specify chlorine-resistant nylon coil, a pull test at every stress point, and a 40-cycle wet-dry test on the zip. Then ask for the result. A component name on a purchase order is not a test.

Shade consistency across the pieces of a set. A hood that does not match its tunic is the complaint burkini sets get most, and it is the easiest one to prevent. Specify a single dye lot for hood, tunic and pants, and ask for a physical shade band to approve before cutting. If the order is too big for one lot, require pieces to be cut and packed lot by lot in sequence rather than mixed between lots. One packing rule, and the problem disappears.

Where the specification is not met. Defect thresholds go in writing before production starts, and the final inspection runs to AQL 2.5 — the sampling standard most international buying offices work to. Fall outside the threshold and the choice is yours: rework at our cost, or a credit. We do not chase the balance on a failed lot. Inspection photographs reach you before the balance falls due, so you are approving against images of the goods, not a written description. If your market requires a third-party inspection, we accommodate it — SGS, Bureau Veritas and Intertek have all inspected on our floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity for custom burkinis?

For burkini wholesale orders, the minimum is 50 pieces per style and colour combination. If you want three colour options of the same style, that is 150 pieces total (50 per colour). Size breakdown across the 50 pieces is flexible — for example 5 XS, 10 S, 15 M, 12 L, 8 XL is fine within the 50-piece minimum.

Do your burkinis really have UPF 50+ protection when wet?

Most fabrics shed a large part of their UPF rating once they are wet and under tension — exactly the state they are in while your customer is swimming, which is why that is the state we test in. Our nylon/spandex and polyester/spandex burkini fabrics hold UPF 50+ wet. The AS/NZS 4399 or EN 13758 report ships with your order, so the claim on your listing is one you can back up.

Can I order a sample before committing to bulk production?

Yes. We cut a pre-production sample from your specification — usually 7–10 days from confirmation of your brief. The sample fee is charged at cost (typically $60–120 per style depending on complexity) and credited in full against your first bulk order. We send photos and measurement confirmation before the physical sample ships.

How do I send my print artwork for a sublimation-print burkini?

Send your artwork file as a high-resolution PNG or TIFF at 150 dpi or higher at the intended fabric print width (typically 150–160 cm). Vector files (AI, SVG) are also accepted. We generate a digital strike-off for your approval before any fabric is printed. One revision round is included; additional rounds are charged at cost. We do not proceed to printing without your written approval of the strike-off.

What labelling and documentation do you provide?

Standard: woven neck label with your brand name, care and composition label to your country's legal standard (EU, UK, US, or AU), hangtag, and individual polybag. On request: country of origin certificate, UPF test report, OEKO-TEX fabric certificate, REACH declaration, and BSCI audit report. For UK buyers: we can support the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) technical documentation requirement that came into force in December 2024.

Is DDP shipping available to the UK and Europe?

Yes. On DDP terms we handle freight booking, export customs clearance in China, import customs clearance and duty payment in your country, and final delivery to your warehouse or address. You receive one invoice that includes all of these costs — no surprise charges at customs. We work with established forwarders on the China–UK, China–EU and China–Australia lanes.

Do you offer exclusivity?

For OEM designs, exclusivity is automatic and written into the sales agreement — we do not produce your design, or any development of it, for another buyer in your country for 12 months from your first order. For ODM styles, we can agree category or territory exclusivity on request, subject to volume. Ask us at quotation stage rather than after your first order.

Will the burkini stay opaque when it is wet?

Yes — but test it wet, and test it before we cut, not after. Weight, colour and stretch decide opacity together; a swatch held to a window and a gram number both leave you guessing. Anything dark or mid-tone holds up from 190 g/m² upwards. White, ivory, blush, mint and pale grey will not — those need an opaque lining layer, and that layer is a real cost, so pick it at sampling while the number can still change. Send us the colourway and we will test the actual fabric wet and stretched before you commit.
